There are two main categories of tile: hand-cut natural stone tiles and machine-made tiles.
PICKING THE RIGHT TILE
Hand-cut natural stone tiles such as slate, granite and marble are beautiful with rich, deep colouring that can “age” over time. Granite is dense, strong and durable. Marble has amazing colouring. Slate has striking naturally coloured seams. Any of these make a kitchen floor, back splash or countertop look exceptional.
Machine-made tiles include porcelain, ceramic, glass, mosaics and other cultured stone. They are typically less costly than natural stone tiles. As they are machine made, the tiles are perfectly straight and uniform which makes installation easier and less costly.
